Black Velvet Cocktail Recipe

For a unique taste of old London in Dublin, this beer cocktail blends equal parts chilled Irish stout with champagne. Trust us, it’s actually good. The drink was created in 1861 to commemorate Prince Albert’s passing. After his death, Queen Victoria chose to wear all black for the remainder of her life.

If you want to do this drink right, raid your nearest medieval castle and serve the cocktail in a fancy silver tankard. The drink is also considered a hangover cure and falls under the “Hair of the Dog” category.

Black Velvet Cocktail Recipe

Also known as the Bismark or Champagne velvet

Ingredients:

  • 4 oz Guinness or other Irish stout
  • 4 oz chilled champagne
  • The exact measurement doesn’t matter, just make sure each ingredient is poured in equal parts whether it’s 4 oz or 8 oz.

Preparation:

  1. Slowly pour the stout into a chilled beer mug;
  2. Gently add the champagne;
  3. Carefully stir.
