The Oaks Lily

The Oaks Lily is a cocktail sometimes associated with the Kentucky Derby but it's traditionally served as the official drink of the Kentucky Oaks, a race held the day before the Derby. It’s a refreshing, fruity cocktail when compared to the Derby’s Mint Julep and it appeals to those who prefer something lighter and sweeter.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ oz Vodka
  • ¼ oz Triple Sec or Cointreau
  • 3 oz Cranberry juice
  • 1 oz Fresh lime juice or sour mix
  • Lemon peel and blackberry speared on a cocktail pick for garnish
  • Optional: simple syrup

Instructions
 

  • In a shaker, mix cranberry juice, fresh lime juice, Triple Sec, and vodka over ice.
  • Strain into a chilled glass filled with ice.
  • Garnish with lime wedges.
  • Optional: Add simple syrup to taste.

Notes

We’re not going to lie, the comment below is correct. When we tried this variation with really tart cranberry juice and no simple syrup, it killed the drink for us. To remedy, we made a pitcher to watch a horse race and dumped a whole bunch of simple syrup in. Once we did that, the drink was a hit and disappeared
